Rubber Matting Calculator

Work out how many rubber mats, tiles or rolls you need. Enter your area, choose a product and add a waste allowance.

Your area

Changing units converts your entered measurements.

Your matting

Automatically combines 10m rolls with a matching cut length. The remainder is rounded up to an available length.

Choose the exact product before calculating. This determines its image, price and basket quantities.

Allow for waste

A little extra helps cover trimming, offcuts and awkward edges.

How much rubber matting do I need?

Measure the length and width of your space, then multiply them to work out the area.

Our rubber flooring calculator estimates the amount of matting you need, no matter if you need whole mats, tiles or full rolls. Select a specific product to see the amount you will likely need and current pricing for your matting.

  1. Measure your area: Enter your measurements in metres, centimetres, millimetres, feet, inches or yards. For irregular spaces, split the area into smaller rectangles.
  2. Choose your matting: Select a product type, then choose a specific product or variant.
  3. Allow for waste: Choose 0%, 5%, 10% or 15%, depending on the cuts and edges you expect.
  4. Check your result: Review the product size and quantity, then visit the product page or add the calculated items to your basket.

Waste allowance and planning your layout

The calculator starts at 5% waste. You can choose 0% (no extra) for an exact-area estimate, 10% for a more complex shape or 15% for an irregular shape.

Waste is applied to the total area of the space before the final number of mats, tiles or rolls is calculated.

A coverage estimate does not decide where each cut or join will fall. Sketch the layout, consider roll direction and check whether offcuts can be reused. If the space has obstacles or you're not sure if you'll need any extra matting, please contact a member of our team for advice.

Rubber matting calculator FAQs

How do I calculate how much rubber matting I need?

Multiply the area length and width of your space to find the area in square metres. Our matting calculator will handle the rest and get you an accurate estimate of how many mats will be required to cover the area of your space.

Can I enter feet, inches or yards instead of metres?

Yes. Choose metres, centimetres, millimetres, feet, inches or yards. Switching units converts measurements you have already entered.

How much extra matting should I allow for waste?

The calculator offers no extra allowance, 5%, 10% or 15%. Start with 5% for a straightforward project, and consider a larger allowance where there may be more cuts or irregular edges. These are planning allowances, not a guarantee that every cutting layout will fit. Waste is added to the area before the final quantity is rounded up.

Why can the quantity change when I choose an exact product?

The product-type labels show starting sizes. Calculations use the selected product’s actual catalogue dimensions instead. For example, a tile described as approximately 0.5m may be listed at 0.49m, which means more tiles are needed for the same area. Always check the selected product size and quantity.

Does the calculator account for awkward shapes, joins and cutting patterns?

It is an area-based estimator, so you must try to measure the area of your space as accurately as possible. For an L-shaped space, split the floor into rectangles, calculate each section and consider how cuts and offcuts can be used. Columns, borders, interlocking edges and roll orientation can change the quantity you need. If you have any questions, please reach out to our team who will be happy to help.

Can I open a product page with the calculated quantity selected?

Yes. Choose an exact product or variant, calculate coverage and select the View product option where shown. The link carries the suggested quantity and, where available, the selected variation to the product page. Review stock availability, options and quantity before adding it to your basket. For mixed roll-and-cut results, use Add calculated items to basket. Estimated product totals include current automatic discounts; delivery and manual coupon codes are confirmed in your basket.

Can I compare different mats and their estimated costs?

Turn on 'Compare matting options' to save up to six results below the calculator. Cards keep the area, product size, waste allowance and required quantity. Exact product choices also show a product image, unit price, estimated total and a product-page link where applicable. Comparisons are stored in the current browser tab; please check the latest product price before ordering.
